The Office is an American mockumentary sitcom television series that depicts the everyday lives of office employees in the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. It aired on NBC from March 24, 2005, to May 16, 2013, lasting a total of nine seasons. Viewers still love the American version of the show, but now must catch old reruns on Netflix, instead. What makes the show so enjoyable, aside from the heartwarming relationship plots, deadpan humor and well-developed characters is the lead, Michael Scott.
Michael is the central character of the series, serving as the Regional Manager of the Scranton branch of a paper distribution company, known as Dunder Mifflin Inc. from seasons 1–7. When a local news channel decides to create a documentary on daily life at the branch, the world was introduced to Michael Scott, on the show, and in real life.
Michael is a complex character. He has many characteristics, some which are lovable, others which are at times deplorable. His antics at the Dunder Mifflin office in Scranton creates both a hectic environment where it may be hard to get any work done, but also gives employees and viewers lovable and funny moments to enjoy.
Michael’s catchphrase is “That’s what she said!”, a sexually suggestive double entendre he uses in inappropriate circumstances, including business meetings and legal depositions. Michael finds uttering the phrase so irresistible that in “Sexual Harassment”, he is goaded into saying it just seconds after Jan Levinson and a lawyer from Corporate specifically asked him to stop.
Michael Scott is the central character for 7 out of 9 of the Office’s seasons. Understandably, viewers learn a lot about his likes and dislikes, his passions, and his ambitions.
