“Harry – Yer a wizard.”, did not just change the life of the fictional eleven-year-old boy from The Cupboard Under The Stairs, 4, Privet Drive, Little Whinging, Surrey, but also, the lives of millions of children across the world who were reading about him and were about to discover the magical school of Hogwarts, the finest School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The era of Harry Potter was a memorable journey in time, and if you happened to be a 90s kid, you would definitely have some fond memories of reading about The Boy Who Lived and his myriad adventures and later, watching them on-screen with boundless excitement bubbling in your veins as you became a part of it all. Over the years, Harry Potter has developed a legendary cult-like status, with over 500 million copies sold worldwide and the movies being big-time grossers at the box office, not to mention the massive fan-following.
Out of all kinds of magic that Hogwarts introduced to us that made us wish so hard for the magic to be real, the one thing which was relatable were the Hogwarts houses. We were all segregated into houses at school in real life and house pride was an important ethic ingrained is us, early on. Therefore, when Harry and his friends got sorted, and over the years, won house pride and honour, the least we fans could satisfy ourselves with, was try to find out which house we’d have been sorted into if we had gotten accepted into our favourite school of witchcraft and wizardry. And (thanks to Pottermore), we did. While Gryffindor might be the most popular, owing to our hero and his bravery, the houses of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw are also desirable to many for their qualities of loyalty and knowledge. But we all have some trepidation when it comes to Slytherin, the house of cunning.
Being the house that spawned You-Know-Who and most of his minions, Slytherin does get a bad name. Slytherins are said to be ambitious, shrewd, cunning and thirsty for power, but none of these qualities have to mean that they are evil. The house of Salazar Slytherin is a great powerhouse of strong leaders, which, over the years, has birthed some of the greatest minds in the wizard world, and let’s face it, they were misjudged and underappreciated as a lot, more than once in spite of trying to help out the other houses.
The rivalry against Slytherin might also stem from the fact, that they were really good at most things, including academia and Quidditch. They were even consecutive winners of the House Cup over years. So, yes, Slytherins have a lot to be proud of. And despite their bad reputation, a significant number of Slytherins played very important roles in the final battle at Hogwarts and subsequently, in the obliteration of Lord Voldemort.
For all these noble reasons and many more, it’s an honour to curate the hardest Slytherin quiz ever and make you relive the best of your Harry Potter days. Any Slytherins in the house here’s calling you all, to pick your brains with what I think only the best and most ardent of you will know. Hope you “cunning folks” can rise to the challenge and finish this with a flourish of your wands. Let the quizzing commence!
