Best Horror Movies Of All Time – Top Ten

       3. Hereditary

best horror movies of all time

Homes are meant to be safe and when that safety is removed, it’s the perfect setting for a horror movie. The movie revolves around the mother of a grieving family. The death of her own mother has left the family is deep shock and in order to avoid spoilers, things only seem to be going downhill from there on out. The movie for its entire two hour duration keeps you on the edge wondering what will happen next. Will you be able to get a breather from all the scares or is something about to pop out to scare you? It leaves you questioning if the movie is about the supernatural or is it more about human emotion? Or are the two somehow connected.

Everything that happens in the movie, even the awkward conversations between the teenagers leaves you feeling unsettled. And the reason is entirely unknown. You can’t put your finger on what’s so creepy! Definitely among the best horror movies of all time!

      2. Halloween

John Carpenter changed the rules of horror movies with Halloween and shaped the slasher genre as we know it today. The movie itself starts with a kid murdering his sister while wearing a clown mask and if that isn’t a sign of the scare that’s going to follow I don’t know what is. The movie revolves around the villain Michael who is the child who murdered his sister and was institutionalized.  His psychiatrist all but called him as evil reincarnated and a danger to all those around him. But 15 years later he breaks out of the intuition and no one really knows what he plans to do.

If his mask isn’t enough to give you the creeps and if jump scares aren’t too much for you to handle, don’t worry there’s a lot more the movie has to offer. Halloween was the original stalker/slasher movie that left you scared because you didn’t know what to expect and when to expect it. Waiting for impending doom leaves you with this raw vulnerability that leaves you on the edge of your seat.

  1. Exorcist

best horror movies of all time

Perhaps one of the best horror movies of all time, the Exorcist is an iconic horror movie. The movie is simply about a girl who gets possessed by a demonic entity and everything that follows leaves you scared out of your mind. Unpredictable, you never know what to expect.

To top that the visuals are also nerve wrecking. So much so the young actress who played the main character wasn’t allowed to see herself after makeup in order to avoid traumatizing her. William Friedkin, for his time when green screens and special effects weren’t a thing, didn’t let that stop him from making everything seem so realistic. From actors being flung across the set in order to imitate demonic attacks to being plastered with green pea soup, everything happening in the movie feels real!
